Frequently Asked Questions
about ION LIFE water alkalizers...

Q1. How do I install a Jupiter Science Water Alkalizer?
There are two versions of water alkalizer. If you want it to sit on your kitchen bench
it's a ten minute installation by anyone. Basically, you attach it to
your tap by unscrewing the aerator from the end of your tap, and
replace it with the Jupiter combo aerator and diverter. Attach two
hoses to the Ionizer and plug it in. We even include a DVD for you to
learn from.
If you have
chosen to install it undersink it's a bit harder, and needs a plumber.
You'll receive a full undersink kit along with detailed instructions
for your plumber.

Q2. Can Alkaline water from an ION LIFE water alkalizer assist me to alkalize my body?
ION LIFE is not permitted, nor do we choose to make therapeutic claims.
We refer to the list of people who have reported health changes
to
us, usually related to the easing of symptoms of acid-related
complaints. Please refer to our website for more detail.
We would also refer you to Dr Theodore Baroody, author of
Alkalize or Die,
who states that he has recommended thousands of people over a long
period of time and continues to do so. So do countless more clinics and
medical practices in Japan
where Water Alkalizers are sold over the counter in local electrical
stores.
Q3.
What about this "Official Japanese Government Report" that said
water alkalizers had very little neutralising property?
We
recommend you get a copy of the report and read it very carefully.
It is now twelve years old. It is not an official government
report but a report by a quasi-government committee. It studied a total of five
water alkalizers, most secondhand, in a test that is unscientifically
based. None
of the alkalizers
used in the test exist today. They were very primitive by
today’s standards.
At the time, the report was commissioned because many companies were using multilevel marketers to sell their alkalizers.
As is often the case when non-experts sell scientifically based technology, claims were being made that had no real basis- just to make a sale. Consumer
complaints mentioned in the report where overwhelmingly related to this
problem with a miniscule number related to problems with the systems
themselves.

Q4.
Why hasn't Alkaline Water been taken up earlier
in the West?
Unfortunately
the West is still very biased against Asian research. Although
Japan translates over 90% of Western scientific papers, the
West only translates 10% of Japanese scientific papers. If they had
bothered, they would have unearthed an amazing phenomena;
a million water alkalizers sold in Japan every year, by major
manufacturers like Panasonic, Akai and Toyo.
They
would have also found that alkaline water and its byproduct acidic water is used throughout Japan and
Korea in hospitals and clinics. The would also have asked Japan for
more scientific reports than are currently available.
Today
South Korea is the world leader, manufacturing up to 40,000 alkalizers
per month for domestic consumption only. The technology, was
originally Russian but was taken up by Japan in 1980. Japan began to
have them made in Korea, and Korea took up the challenge to make a
better unit. Jupiter Science has been making water alkalizers for over
24 years and is by far the largest maker in Korea and now the world.

Q5.
I am told that a lemon will help to alkalize
your body. What's
the truth?
This
is all about a basic misconception most people have about
food and its effect on the body.
It
is true that if you plunge a pH meter into a lemon it will
read as acid. But once you have consumed (burnt up/converted
to energy/metabolised) a lemon, what is left is alkaline.
It is what
is left of all of our foods that determines our acid/alkaline
balance, not the pH of the food we are about to consume. This is known as the 'ash' of a food.
After food
has been completely burned up and converted to energy, the leftover
minerals are what makes up our mineral reserves and therefore our pH or
acid/alkaline balance.
Unfortunately many other factors
affect our pH balance, including pollution, stress and our
own body's metabolic wastes.
We
are not "what we eat". We are what is left over after we
eat.

Q6.
I hear Dr Andrew Weil (USA) says health claims made
by water alkalizer sellers are bogus and that we should
save our money.
ION LIFE emailed Dr Weil many times about this claim to ask him if he had actually
seen any clinical evidence to support his claim. We received
no reply.
Even after seven years of operation we still come across a few practitioners who believe
in the old paradigm that somehow the body has a miraculous
ability to balance its own pH. Certainly, in times when we
ate more alkaline food and didn't repress stress the
way we do today, this might have been so.
However
a study of almost 1,000 Americans by Dr Linda Frassetto of the
University of California in 1999 has turned this old idea on its head.
She found the opposite; that we are now storing acid in our body fat
because we have become incapable of eliminating the increased tide of
acid wastes that we are now assailed with. This is an evolutionary
change never before seen in our evolutionary history, and must be seen
in the context of an unmanageable acid tide within.
This report "Diet, Evolution and Ageing" is downloadable here.
We
have many more doctors who have the opposite opinion from Dr Weil, who,
as far as we know, has never even sampled or tested alkaline ionized water. To see what
these experts have to say, go here.

Q7. I have read elsewhere that I should have slightly acid to neutral body tissue.
It's
not so simple.
Different parts of the body need different
pH levels. At a cellular level, there are two factors working
together to keep our energy up.
The interior of each cell is alkaline.
The Mitochondria - the power producer of the body, swims
in an alkaline sea inside the cell’s membrane. Outside,
the interstitial (between cells) fluid is saline, alkaline
and mineralised. This is the fluid that transports nutrition
to the cells. The cell allows it in after checking it with
its many receptor antennae that swim in the alkaline fluid.
Once inside, the mitochondria consumes it and converts it
to energy - electrical
energy. Here’s where the minor miracle of life repeats itself
billions of times a day. Through the tiny antennae that protrude into
the interstitial fluid, and via the actual cell membrane, electrical
energy is transmitted. This process permits the cell to pass the energy
as electricity from positive to negative, just like a car or household
wire passes power! Consider for a moment the effect of poor
conductivity. (acid to alkaline) Energy flow would be greatly reduced.
So it’s very important for the interstitial fluid to be correctly alkaline
because if it’s not, the power can’t flow, the
tiny antennae that detect germs etc can’t work properly,
and we lose energy.
It’s also important to realize that we are never just acid or alkaline.
We change by the hour, even the minute. The human body is a marvel of
design and engineering as it shunts around alkaline minerals to
neutralise excess acids within minutes of them entering the body.
It’s probably also obvious to you now that if we use minerals to maintain our balance, they must come from somewhere.
This
idea of a body miraculously adjusting its balance really makes no sense
at all because without a ready supply of alkaline minerals, how could it
balance anything? These are the same minerals we spoke about in the
‘lemon’ question, and the great advantage of drinking water
loaded with ionized alkaline minerals that minerals get into the body
without metabolism occurring - that is, they just go straight to work!
Q8. What is the difference between
"balanced water" and alkaline water?
There
is no such thing as "balanced water". It is a myth created by water
system sellers whose systems cannot alkalize on demand. All water has its
own pH or acid/alkaline value, based on its mineral content.

Q.9 Are
Water alkalizers safe for gastric problems?
ION
LIFE have delivered far in excess of 1000 systems in Australia. Only
one case of stomach problem has been reported. The user was refunded
her purchase money and advised to seek medical advice.
Some users
have reported cessation of heartburn and other gastric problems.
Original testimonials are available from ION LIFE offices and may be
viewed
here.
Q.10 Are your Water alkalizers electrically approved?
They are. The internationally accepted CE certificate of compliance may be viewed here. They are currently undergoing US "UL" approval plus US NSF approval.
Q. I happened to be at the
Sydney Body, Soul and Spirit festival at Darling Harbour on the weekend
and I came across a company there who was selling an air ionizer. He
told me that he used to sell the water ionizer but has since stopped
selling them because of research that said that too much alkalinity in
the body thins the bone mass. He has one installed in his home which he
now used in the laundry for clothes washing. How true is his claim?
We rang the person concerned and asked for a copy of the reserach he claimed was 'coming in all the time'. Nothing was sent.
We have never sighted any such research. However we have sighted
numerous papers and articles that claim the opposite, including:
Article 1 (.pdf)
Article 2 (.pdf)
Article 3
Article 4.
Q. Will your Water Ionizer remove Flouride?
See this one-page .pdf report for the results of an independent test on an ionizer identical in function to our models.

Q. How Important is the Size of the Ionizing plates?
Some makers of water ionizers will claim 'the bigger the better'.
Bigger plates need bigger
power supply. The Jupiter draws up to 80watts of power. Large plate
models draw almost fout times as much. Plare design and efficiency
includes factors such as surface design (for increased net surface
area) platinum plating method and autocleanse method. Jupiter systems
use an ionizing chanber that is the result of longterm collaboration
with Toyo University, Japan.

Q. Are there big and small ions?
Some makers of water ionizers
will claim their units create smaller ions. Let's be very clear. An ion
is an atom with a positive or negative electrical charge. Atoms do not
vary in size.
